Description
The Fighter Pilot is a shaped wooden panel depicting an American Air Force Fighter Pilot Helmet. Painted in oils on board by Kim Curtis, it turns an iconic piece of 20th century military design into a decorative art piece. A portrait, a design celebration and an ornament all in one!
The paintwork on this one-off original has been deliberately scuffed and scratched in areas to represent the helmets utilitarian beginnings and the wear and tear of its years. It has then been given a coat of artists resin to give it a sleek, glossy pop art finish.
As with all the panels, we carefully cut out the shape with either a jig or scoll saw depending on the size and intracacy of the piece. The painting is protected with a layer of UV resistant artists varnish before the artist quality resin is applied in this case and the edges protected all the way round with a decorative, yet practical, metal strip. The backs are painted in a neutral, flat colour and stamped and signed by the artist.
