The Skull is a painting by Kim Curtis. This version of it is a large scale print with a high gloss resin finish applied. To add to the macabre mood of the piece, the print has been torn, scratched into and otherwise distressed. This gives it the appearance of an illustration from and old and battered book or a vintage poster that has been left to fade. In contrast, the resin coating is sleek and modern looking and highlights the clash between old and new.
The print has been adhered to a wooden board which has then been cut to the shape of the skull. A layer of UV resistant artists varnish seals the print prior to the coat of artists resin is applied. The edges are protected all the way round with a decorative, yet practical, metal strip and the back is painted in a neutral, flat colour and stamped Cutlooseart.
