Description
This large scale wall art piece by Kim Curtis is entitled The Unicyclist. Depicting a vintage wooden toy, this one-off piece brings fun and old world charm to any room. The Edwardian era toy is in the form of a clown on a unicycle. The metal wheel of the unicycle would have turned making the pivoted wooden legs appear to be pedalling.
Kim’s painting of the toy is executed in oil on a board that is cut to the shape of the figure. Using chiascuro and foreshortening, the painting has a 3-dimensional feel and our uncyclist appears to be holding out his hand to greet you.
The colours have stayed true to the original ones on the toy and the application of the paint seeks to represent the weathered, distressed condition of the toy’s paintwork. Standing over a metre tall, the statement piece will give impact and interest to any room.
The artwork has been protected by 3 coats of artist’s gloss varnish. The panel is sealed and primed mdf with metal stripping around the edges. The back is painted in a dark grey and has a recess and metal plate attached to hang the panel from. This allows it to be simply slotted over a single screw in the wall.
The back is also signed by the artist, Kim Curtis and stamped with the Cut Loose Art Trademark.
