Description
Union Flag Fluttering is an original piece of Wall Art by Kim Curtis. With its complex design, the national flag of the United Kingdom, is very decorative in its own right and has been used in art and interior design for decades. I have chosen to paint the flag fluttering to play with its aesthetic appeal and to suggest its ever-changing standing.
The design dates back to James I and, to represent the weight of history, the palette contains rich dark prussian blue, alizarin crimson and yellow ochre and naples yellow to ‘age’ the white. These colours give it a more mellow, vintage look.
The flag has featured in a number of my oil paintings and items of painted furniture. You will also find reproductions of it on our prints, cushions and ornaments.
As with all the panels, we carefully cut out the shape with either a jig or scoll saw depending on the size and inticacy of the piece. The painting is protected with several layers of UV resistant artists varnish and edges protected all the way round with a decorative, yet practical, metal strip. The backs are painted in a neutral, flat colour and stamped and signed by the artist.
