Van Gogh’s Chair is one of the most famous of the Dutch painter’s works. Painted whilst he lived in Arles in the late 1880s, Van Gogh intended it as a representation of himself and a companion painting to a chair ‘portrait’ of his fellow artist, Gauguin.
In this wall art piece, Peter Taylor Ward has taken the chair element from the painting and created his own version in acrylics. With a nod to the exubriant mark-making and vibrancy of colour that Van Gogh is noted for, this is Peter’s tribute to Van Gogh’s genius.
As with all the panels, we carefully cut out the shape with either a jig or scoll saw depending on the size and inticacy of the piece. The painting is protected with several layers of UV resistant artists varnish and edges protected all the way round with a decorative, yet practical, metal strip. The backs are painted in a neutral, flat colour and stamped and signed by the artist.
