DUE TO ITS SIZE THIS ITEM IS FOR COLLECTION ONLY FROM THE CUTLOOSEART STUDIO – TIVERTON, DEVON. PLEASE SEE OUR DELIVERY INFORMATION PAGE FOR DETAILS.

The Little Dancer is a painting by Peter Taylor Ward. A study of the Edgar Degas Little Dancer sculpture. It captures the weary, yet defiant, gaze and contorted pose of the young Opera Rat that Degas modelled. This version of it is a large scale wooden panel print with a high gloss resin finish applied.

The print has been adhered to a wooden board which has then been cut to the shape of the skull. A layer of UV resistant artists varnish seals the print prior to the coat of artists resin is applied. The back is painted in a neutral, flat colour and stamped Cutlooseart.

In 1880, Edgar Degas began his sculpture of the Little Dancer Aged Fourteen. Degas sculpted in wax from life and enhanced the realism of the piece by using silk and muslin to dress the figure. After his death, casts were made of many of his wax figures and 28 bronze versions of the Little dancer were made. A majority of these versions are in museums and galleries across the world helping to make the figure instantly recognisable and much loved.

The print has been adhered to a wooden board which has then been cut to the shape of the dancer. A layer of UV resistant artists varnish seals the print prior to the coat of artists resin is applied. The edges are protected all the way round with a decorative, yet practical, metal strip and the back is painted in a neutral, flat colour and stamped and dated.
